Van Abbe and De Stijl
2017 | The opening
Theo van Doesburg is central to the Van Abbe and De Stijl exhibition. De Stijl operated at the interface of art, architecture, design and literature. The Van Abbemuseum Choir livens the opening of this exhibition up with a number of sound poems, poems written for recitation at the beginning of the 20th century. Because we had never done that before, we asked Jaap Blonk to help us. After hearing Kurt Schwitters' Ursonate, he started his own career as a voice artist and sound poet. He gave us three workshops and together with him we rehearsed sound poems by, among others, I.K. Bonset (Van Doesburg), Kurt Schwitters, Till Brugman and Antony Kok.
