The single-channel video projection 'Think About Wood, Think About Metal' (2011) by Manon de Boer shows fragments of the life and ideas of percussionist Robyn Schulkowsky situated in the history of avant-garde music during and after the 1970s. Schulkowsky has worked with composers such as John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Derek Bailey, John Zorn, Frederic Rzewski and Christian Wolff. Percussion improvisations by Schulkowsky and the non-linear structuring of time occupy a large part in the film, also focusing on more abstract notions, such as memory, history and life, through the cinematic experience.
'Think About Wood, Think About Metal' (2011) forms a trilogy, together with the videos 'Sylvia Kristel – Paris' (2003) and 'Resonating Surfaces' (2005).
