Resonating Surfaces

Description
In "Resonating Surfaces" - a 2005 film by Manon de Boer - Brazilian psychoanalyst Suely Rolnik states that the body as a whole is a sensitive plate. She talks about the major events in her life and about her connection with philosopher Gilles Deleuze and schizo analyst Félix Quattari. She explains how French, her second language, became a protective layer of plaster that healed her mental wounds from the dictatorship in Brazil. Only when she is asked to sing a song from her memory does she come into contact with her emotions again. The plaster layer tears open by the gentle singing of Gal Costa's "Passarinho".
In this cinematographically strong work, Manon de Boer (1966, Kodaikanal, India) also shows a portrait of the city of Sao Paolo, with fragments from a Samba de Vela meeting. We experience how the body functions as a sounding board, mentally, physically and sonically.
'Resonating Surfaces' (2005) forms a trilogy, together with the videos 'Sylvia Kristel – Paris' (2003) and 'Think About Wood, Think About Metal' (2011).
